Letters Never Sent: an installation by Harlan Lovestone

"Sometimes, though, things get rough — rougher than I’d ever tell you in a letter."

About The Artwork

"Letters Never Sent" is a multi-media installation originally funded by Tennessee's ArtsBuild. The installation explores the voices of soldiers and their loved ones across generations — from the Civil War to Afghanistan.

Through projected images, storytelling, and sound created based on the artist's spectacular vision, writing, and ai prompt engineering, artist Harlan Lovestone brings to life fictional letters inspired by real wartime correspondence — each one a deeply human reflection on duty, loss, love, and home.

This project was created in honor of those who have served. The installation debuted with a temporary community reflection wall at ClearStory Arts gallery in Chattanooga, Tennessee on Veterans Day 2025.

The goal of this project is to continue to evolve and travel across the United States.
